Editing Process

The video started with

Production Logo:

I started with making my production logo video for the first scene, it was called ‘IHK productions’. I made my production logo on an app called Picsart. I choose this app as it was the only app that allowed me to merge any picture I wanted with the text(I did experiment this on a couple of other apps before like Canva but they did not have this feature). I wanted to use the colors yellow, orange and red so first I choose a picture in which these two colors blend, I choose a font to write IHK first on a white background and then I merged the picture in it. This is how I got a logo.

The next task was to make a video in which ‘productions’ would slide in to the IHK logo that I made. I used the app In-shot for this as I knew how to use this transition in that app as I have been using it for a long time. I choose the IHK logo on that app, first I choose the ‘Daniel’ font on In-Shot, colored it red and choose the wipe left transition. After that a white font cut the IHK into two pieces to emphasize on productions more.

After it was made I put a trailer opening sound (which I took from you-tube) and adjusted the transitions accordingly. I added another animation to my logo to kind of flow with the energetic music in the background. The production logo video was complete after this.

 Title of the film:

I wanted the film opening to end with the title of the movie so I started working on it. The scene ended with the blood scene so to make it more intense I wanted to write CONVICTED with blood. First, I tried doing it on the app Canva, firstly It was a task to find all the letters in the word ‘CONVICTED’ on the app. Secondly, When I did find some of them, they looked really fake to me and I was not satisfied so I shifted to the app Photo Grid as it allowed me to crop the part of the picture I want to I could easily choose the selected letters and write the word. I searched for blood letters on google and finally found them. I made the word ‘convicted’ out of those letters. I furthermore, shifted to In-shot, to make the video for the title. The text entered the black image with a fade-in transition and then I pipped in the blood hands later on for a horror touch with the scary music in the background (which I took from you-tube). Following are the images from every app I used to make the it:

Edtiting the parts I shot:

Now was the time to edit the shot which was connecting through an Eyeline match: the Eye opening shot was edited on Adobe photo shop Video, I selected a circle mask from Opacity > effects control on a black image. I, then inverted the mask and added some feathering to make it look real.

Now that the black image was in front of the scene, I created a new frame on the mask path at the start of the video. I pulled the strings of the oval the way I wanted them to be and got the video I wanted. I further adjusted the duration and speed of the clip when I added it on InShot.

Once all of the production was done, It was finally time to pick the final shots and discard the rest of them. I edited most of my film opening on In-Shot, the film began with the setting’s shot so I picked the ones I liked and attached the music with them. Then came the scenes which were shot inside the house, most of them were action matches so the only task was to combine the music in a way that it looks natural. After combining it, I started adding the actor’s shots, This process was time taking as I had to discard a lot of clips in which I was not satisfied with his acting. I had to crop some of them too. I will post the Discarded shots separately so let's move forward to the cuts.

Now I started adding the clips were supposed to appear as a parallel cut. This was an easy task as the one is that helped me the most during this process was the story-boards that I made which gave me a clear idea of which shot goes where and how they would be combined. After selecting these it was time to add sound and make a video of all of them collectively.

Editing this film opening made me realize that sound plays an essential role in how a movie may turn out. As I was playing with sound too much, this was the trickiest part.

The part towards the ending scenes was the hardest as I had to crop the video according to the sound, match the videos with the sound, merge 3-4 sounds together in one video without one overpowering the other. Some of the shots of of 1-2 seconds and some even less than 1 second so cropping music that suits them and creates a suspense or thriller effect was definitely a task. I had adjust the volumes of the sound accordingly too. The sound that the viewer would subconsciously hears was the lower than the one that was connected directed to the shot. Most of the film opening consisted of Diegetic Sounds, the sound that is taking place inside of the story.
